To prepare files for the Docutech Press you will have to "print to file" and send us the "postscript" or "prn" file. To do this read the following:
  • Please note: When you're ready to send the disk or email the file
(for Docutech only) call 405.364.3615 for instructions on where to send.
  • If you would like load a "screenshot" file to guide you
through this process( for Windows), click on this file name: win.pdf
If you cannot open it to read it just download Acrobat Reader from Adobe.
  • {short description of image}
  • If you need to download a "ppd" file for creating postscript files or pdf files
( for Windows), click on this file name: win.ppd
( for Mac), click on this file name: mac.ppd

Creating a PostScript File:

Macintosh:

From the Chooser, select “LaserWriter 8” or “LaserWriter”.
Choose any printer you wish, and click the “Setup” button.
Click “PPD” (Postscript Printer Discription)
Select “General” or “Color General”, depending on your output needs or download mac.ppd from above (use ScitexPSM5.ppd for film or xrd61354.ppd for Docutech).
In your application, make sure the correct PPD is selected (if an option to do so exists).
When you print, select “Print to file”, “Write PostScript to file”, or a similiar option.
Tip:Use the Iris Ink Jet PPD that is included with Quark and Pagemaker.

PC (Windows):

Make sure you have the origional Microsoft Windows CD.
Open up the Printers icon in Control Panel (from the Main program group).
Add a new printer by clicking Add.
Scroll down and select a PostScript Printer such as Linotronic 330 or download win.ppd from above (use ScitexPSM5.ppd for film or xrd61354.ppd for Docutech).
Click Install and follow the on-screen instructions.
In your application, select the PostScript Printer which you added above.
When you print, select “Print to file”, or a similar option.

Install the postscript printer, connect it to file:
Now all you have to do is print your file to that driver and send us the resulting Postscript file.
Your application’s documentation should have details on which options to select. We suggest the following:
• Choose a paper size that is 1 inch larger than your document size. This will allow room for bleeds and registration marks.
• Make sure you turn on all marks.
• Do not select Emulsion Down or Negative Image. This is done automatically on the imagesetter.
• Also, you should choose 250 fountain steps. This will keep fountain fills smooth. If your document is extremely complex, you may need to reduce the number of fountain steps in order for it to print.
• Files should be sent as composite for all full-color outputs, such as DocuColor and Large Format Color Prints.
For the Docutech (black ink only), download a ppd (xrd61354.ppd) from above and send the file to it as you would send to your laser printer only use "save to file" option.
Do not put any marks or use extended page sizes on DocuTech files.

For PostScript files:

PostScript files should end with a .ps file extension.
However, if created in Windows by printing to a PostScript printer (e.g., LaserWriter), the file may end with a .prn extension.
PostScript files can be large (up to 60 MB) but compress well with Zip or Stuffit.

Please note: When using Indesign, Microsoft Publisher, Excel, Powerpont or Word, some fonts and graphics are not printable and some may print with low resolution (rough with large pixels) due to the nature of Microsoft products (intended for home laser printers). If you use color, the printed color may not look like your video colors on your monitor. These files will have to be converted to postscript files for us to output.
